I Learned How to Jump Higher With These 4 Simple Steps

I have been pretty weak in the area of jumping for most of my basketball career and it has been an ongoing struggle. I recently was lucky enough to find something that has been increasing my jump height really quickly and I will be sure to include that in this post as well.  It all came down to a plan that I followed that targeted specific muscles for jumping and a secret that almost nobody has heard about. Hint: Most people do it all wrong!

I went from finger-tipping the rim, to finally figuring out how to dunk the basketball with ease.

Below are 4 simple steps to you need to learn how to jump higher. Including a video showing the most important factor in jumping higher: Technique. I followed them daily and recommend copying them down and start using them – you’ll be amazed by how quickly you will increase your jump height when you incorporate them into your daily practice.

#1 Understand what the Most Important Muscles are for Jumping

Most athletes fail to jump higher because they don’t know which muscles are most important for the vertical leap. Knowing the muscles allows you to  focus on working them out and preparing them for maximum explosion during the jump.

The most important muscles for jumping high are found in your lower back, glutes (butt) , and hamstrings. To finish the list – your quadriceps and abs are also important.

The biggest mistake people make when training to increase their vertical jump is focusing only on the quadriceps and spending no time working out the glutes and the hamstrings, which are far more important. By doing this, they are seeing very little increase in their vertical jump.

#2 – Get “In the Know”

Learning the proper techniques is possibly the most beneficial thing you can do. The only way to get huge gains is to follow proven training principles. If you spend hours everyday practicing the wrong principles, you will get nowhere. If you know how to practice and apply the right principles you will quickly notice that your vertical jump is increasing.

#3 – Be Explosive and Motivated


If there is one thing that you should have in your mind right before you go for the jump, it is to explode. It takes a certain level of motivation to do this, but anyone can. There are 8 other elements needed to get the most out of your jump that you will also learn. I believe all of them are equally important, but there is one formula you must remember – power + quickness = explosion. When the muscle contracts in a very quick and powerful movement, the result will be explosion. This means you will be jumping higher. Maximizing strength in the muscle groups used in the vertical jump will help even more.

#4 – Include High Protein for Each Meal
With the training and practice you will be doing, protein for each meal is very crucial to successfully increase your jump height. This is because protein will help your muscles repair each time after training. Each time the muscle is repaired stronger than before.
